From next week, government through Education CS Amina Mohammed has banned public events in schools.

The CS noted that the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) has already released examination calender, which required less student interruption from their normal school days.

Speaking during the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (Kessha) conference in Mombasa, Ms Mohammed said that she will personally lead the exam monitoring exercise especially in areas prone to exam leakage.

She also laid a huge task to heads of schools during the examination period which will only require candidates in schools as the rest take holiday.

“Principals must efficiently and effectively administer the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Examination due in a few months. Continue preparing candidates adequately to improve the results of this year’s examinations,” Ms Mohamed said.

She went ahead to caution them over exam irregularities in their centres

“You are the centre managers, waking up at the crack of dawn to pick up examination papers from the containers and returning scripts every evening. In order to maintain the utmost integrity of the national exams, you will be responsible for your centres. Execute the guidelines and seek reinforcement when needed,” she said.
