Award-winning actress Jackie Matubia recently shared her emotional journey following her highly publicized breakup with actor Blessing Lung’aho. The two, who began dating in 2021, quickly became one of Kenya’s most beloved celebrity couples, culminating in a proposal in 2022. However, by 2023, their relationship ended in a heartbreaking split that left fans questioning what went wrong.

In a candid interview, Jackie reflected on the impact the breakup had on her personal life and her attempts to co-parent peacefully with Blessing for the sake of their daughter, Zendaya. Despite her efforts, Jackie revealed that Blessing was not receptive to her desire for cooperation in raising their child. She expressed her frustration, admitting that it was difficult to navigate her emotions while also maintaining her responsibilities as a mother.

Jackie, who grew up in a blended family, acknowledged how her focus on her new relationship and child had shifted her attention away from her firstborn daughter, Zari Wanjiku. She shared her concerns about the emotional toll this had on Zari, recalling the fear she saw in her daughter’s eyes. “When you get into a relationship with a man, and you already have a child that is not this person’s child, you tend to take away the attention from your firstborn child and focus on the man,” Jackie explained. Recognizing this pattern, she made a conscious decision to work on herself and prioritize her children’s well-being.

The actress also shared her heartache over having to ask Blessing to leave their home, laying to rest rumors that he was the one who initiated the breakup. Jackie admitted to feeling a deep sense of despair following the split but was determined to stay strong for her children. “Sometimes you have zero zeal to live, and then you hear your kids going to school, and I’m like, no matter what storm, I have to wake up,” she said.

In addition to her efforts to co-parent, Jackie revealed that she had begged Blessing to assist in raising Zendaya, but claims he was unwilling to step up. This led to an emotional moment when Jackie turned to God, expressing her resolve to raise her child as both a mother and father. “I cried, I cried, and I told God, when I was formed in my mother’s womb, you knew that I would have a child named Zendaya, and I will be the father and mother to this child,” she shared.

Furthermore, Jackie revealed that following her breakup with Blessing, she chose celibacy for nearly three years, focusing on her children and clearing her mind. She emphasized the importance of maintaining a sober, clear-headed approach to life after such a challenging period.

Despite the hardships, Jackie remains focused on her family, her career, and her personal growth. While the split was undoubtedly painful, her journey through heartbreak, self-discovery, and co-parenting has provided a source of inspiration for many.
