Renowned Kenyan journalist and Citizen TV newscaster Jeff Koinange has announced the launch of his new podcast titled “Off The Record,” set to debut on his YouTube channel in the coming days. The announcement came in a video circulating on social media, where Jeff shared that the podcast will feature interviews with musicians, artists, and other prominent personalities. Fans have long encouraged him to create a platform for more personal and in-depth conversations, and the new show appears to respond directly to this demand. Scheduled to start on Sunday, March 1, 2026, “Off The Record” promises to offer an intimate look at the stories and experiences of Kenya’s most notable figures. This move marks a significant expansion of Jeff’s media footprint beyond traditional television and radio broadcasting.

Jeff Koinange’s journalism career spans more than three decades, making him one of the most respected media personalities in Kenya. He began his professional journey in the early 1990s, working with ABC News and NBC News after earning a degree in Broadcast Journalism from New York University. He later served as chief producer for Africa, covering major continental events, and between 2001 and 2007, he was a CNN Africa correspondent. During this period, Jeff reported on civil wars in Liberia and Sierra Leone, the Darfur crisis, and famine in Niger, earning international recognition for his reporting. Notably, he became the first African journalist to receive an Emmy award, cementing his reputation as a world-class reporter. His return to Kenya saw him join K24 TV and KTN, where he hosted Capital Talk, before eventually moving to Royal Media Services to anchor the widely watched Jeff Koinange Live (JKL) on Citizen TV.

The decision to launch “Off The Record” has prompted speculation among fans about Jeff’s future at Citizen TV. Some viewers wonder whether the podcast signals a potential departure from his established television role, although no official confirmation has been made. In his announcement video, Jeff emphasized that the podcast will focus on interviewing personalities and sharing these conversations directly with his YouTube audience. He described the show as a platform where musicians, artists, and other notable figures can tell their stories freely and candidly. The format is expected to combine Jeff’s seasoned interviewing skills with a casual and open setting that allows guests to discuss their experiences without the constraints of traditional news formats.

“Off The Record” represents a strategic move by Jeff Koinange to adapt to changing media consumption habits. With audiences increasingly turning to digital platforms for on-demand content, YouTube provides an ideal space to reach younger viewers and diversify his reach. The podcast format also allows for longer, more detailed discussions than typical TV segments, giving guests room to explore topics in depth. This approach can enhance engagement and attract viewers who seek more than the standard news coverage or quick interviews. By leveraging his credibility and network, Jeff is positioned to create a podcast that resonates both locally and across the African continent.

The launch of “Off The Record” underscores Jeff Koinange’s ongoing influence in Kenyan media and his ability to innovate within the industry. As the debut date approaches, anticipation is growing among fans eager to see the first episodes. The podcast is expected to complement his existing work on JKL and his HOT 96 FM breakfast show, broadening the scope of his media presence. By combining his investigative journalism background with a more conversational digital format, Jeff is likely to attract a wide audience and set new standards for Kenyan podcasts. This initiative highlights his commitment to storytelling and engagement, offering listeners fresh insights into the lives and careers of prominent figures.
