Village elders in Mugai village in Malava area from Kakamega County have began social curse cleansing after a brother and a sister fell in love and decided to make it official with a marriage.
As part of the cleansing, the two controversial couple Fred Makokha and Rebecca Makokha were given 10 strokes of canes each.
“If the two are left alone to live as man and wife, they will never be able to raise a family. All their children would keep dying,” one of the village elders said.
A bull was also slaughtered and intestines smeared on the victims face in order to wade of any curse.
Luhya community prohibits marriage of relatives and siblings as away of raising a generation with luck and prosperity.
