Gospel singer and philanthropist Karangu Muraya has taken a leading role in supporting artist Gachathi wa Thuo after the singer revealed serious financial struggles. Karangu acted within hours of learning about the situation and organized an urgent fundraiser that brought together celebrities, fans and community members.
The event, held at a local hotel, raised more than KSh 1.7 million. This fast response pushed Gachathi closer to the KSh 3 million he needed to stop his family land from being auctioned. The land is valued at about KSh 20 million and holds both his home and his father’s home.
Karangu continued to coordinate support even after the hotel fundraiser. He shared an Mpesa message on social media to show that some of Gachathi’s closest friends had also sent significant contributions directly to the singer’s private number. One ally sent KSh 155,000. Karangu confirmed that every amount reached Gachathi and thanked all contributors for their generosity.
He used his platforms to explain the urgency behind the fundraiser. Gachathi had lost his car after being unable to clear a loan. The sale of the vehicle did not cover the full amount, leaving a KSh 3 million balance. This balance put the family land at risk, creating pressure that Gachathi could not manage alone.
Karangu’s leadership drew strong reactions online. Many praised his consistency in supporting people in crisis. Others highlighted his track record of mobilizing fast and effective community help. Messages described him as dependable and committed to service.
The fundraiser played a key role in stabilizing Gachathi’s situation. Karangu said he was grateful to everyone who contributed and stated that the show of unity reflected the strength of community support.
