Forensic specialists from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) meticulously retraced the final movements of the late marathon world record holder, Kelvin Kiptum. Their investigation focused on the three restaurants frequented by Kiptum and his coach before the tragic road accident that claimed their lives. Spearheaded by director of homicide, Martin Nyuguto, the team also paid a visit to Sharon Chepkurui, the lone survivor of the fatal incident.
Where was Kelvin Kiptum last seen?
The quest to unravel Kiptum’s last whereabouts commenced on Tuesday, February 20, with the investigative unit diligently tracing his steps preceding the fatal crash along the Eldoret-Ravine Road. Led by Martin Nyuguto, the experts meticulously revisited the establishments frequented by Kiptum and his coach, Gervais Hakizimana, who also met their demise in the accident. As part of their comprehensive inquiry, the forensic experts scrutinized three eateries patronized by Kiptum on the day of the tragedy, which occurred on February 11.
The latest findings revealed that Kiptum had visited Talex Inn Restaurant Pub and Car Wash situated along Iten-Eldoret Road, The Well Irish Pub and Restaurant located at Rupa Mall, and The Grand Miarmir Guest House in the Annex off the Eldoret-Nairobi Highway. Notably, at the Grand Miarmir Guest House, investigators established that Kiptum’s Toyota Premio car, bearing registration number KDL 566F, arrived at 9:12 pm and departed at 10:25 pm following a dinner stop.
In addition to scrutinizing the eateries, the DCI team sought insights from Sharon Chepkurui, the sole survivor of the tragic accident that claimed the lives of Kelvin Kiptum and Hakizimana. Chepkurui’s eyewitness account is deemed critical in piecing together the events leading up to the fatal crash, providing vital clues for the ongoing investigation.
As the DCI’s forensic experts meticulously examine the evidence gathered from the restaurants and the survivor’s testimony, the quest for answers surrounding Kelvin Kiptum’s untimely demise intensifies, shedding light on the circumstances preceding the tragic accident.
