Renowned journalist Ken Mijungu has been unexpectedly fired from Cape Media’s TV47 just weeks after joining the station. The news of his dismissal has left many in shock, especially since he had yet to make his debut on air.
Mijungu’s Request for More Time Leads to Termination
According to documents seen by TUKO.co.ke, Mijungu had written to TV47’s management requesting additional time to settle into his new role before making his first on-air appearance. In his letter, he expressed difficulties adjusting and sought an extension to better understand the station’s workflow.
However, instead of granting him the time he requested, the management responded with a termination letter, which was signed by the HR Manager, Lilian Makandi, on February 22, 2025.
The letter, titled “Termination of Contract,” acknowledged his request but stated that the company had decided to revoke his service agreement effective immediately.
Reaction to Mijungu’s Exit
The sudden firing sparked massive online reactions, with many speculating about the reasons behind his abrupt dismissal. Initially, TV47 posted news of his exit on their website and social media platforms, but the posts were later deleted.
Despite the unexpected turn of events, the management wished him well, stating that they would be open to working with him in the future.
Ken Mijungu’s Career Path
Before joining TV47, Mijungu was a prime-time news anchor at KTN for four years. His departure from the Standard Group-owned station had already surprised many, but his move to Cape Media was seen as a fresh start.
Following his exit from KTN, Mijungu had hinted at a personal decision to leave, stating, “A good dancer knows when to leave the stage.” However, his tenure at TV47 was cut short before it could even begin, leaving questions about what went wrong behind the scenes.
As a seasoned journalist, Mijungu has built a strong reputation in the Kenyan media industry. With his experience and skills, many are eager to see what his next move will be.
For now, fans and fellow journalists continue to speculate about his unexpected exit and what it means for both him and TV47.
