Nairobians have been shocked after revelations that the inspiration behind the design of KICC came from a donkey’s private parts.
While speaking to Citizen TV, Kenya’s first African Chief Architect David Mutiso said that he saw a vision of an erected penis on a donkey before coming up with a model to build Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) in 1968.
After being contacted by Kanu Secretary General Tom Mboya, Mutiso told Citizen TV that he was tasked with the job of putting a model for the headquarters of the then ruling party- KANU.
“They wanted to build a headquarter for Kanu. We started sketching, initially it was a simple four-storey building, it evolved with time. Every time we showed the President, he asked us to go higher and eventually we ended up with 17 floors,” he said noting that Late founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta would add more floors on his own to carry as many units as possible
He added that the work would not have been complete without additional skills from Norwegian architect Karl Henrik Nøstvik who was a consultant architecture for the project
“The initial tower was inspired by a donkey’s penis,” Mutiso explained
