Kenyan media personality King Kalala has revealed the challenges she faced after making the bold decision to walk away from her job at NRG Radio in October 2024. Known for her unapologetic voice and unfiltered opinions, Kalala surprised fans when she exited the station without announcing her next move. Now, in a candid video, she has shared how life unfolded after leaving the airwaves.

Kalala admitted that quitting her radio job without a plan B took a toll on her financially and emotionally. At one point, she had to seek financial help from her parents to avoid returning to the village. “I had to tell my parents there was a problem somewhere. They ended up paying rent for me, which was building up to KSh 100,000,” she confessed. “I was like, I’m not going back to the village. You guys just pay the rent, but give me like five minutes.”

Despite the uncertainty, Kalala remained determined to chart her own course. Today, she’s back in the spotlight with a new podcast titled 3 Truths, No Lies, co-hosted with fitness influencer Frankie JustGymIt and Ugandan socialite Christine Nampeera. The show explores raw conversations around modern life, relationships, and social issues, offering Kalala a fresh platform to connect with her audience on her own terms.

Reflecting on her journey, Kalala also recalled another moment of tough love from her father. After dropping out of JKUAT, her dad, a staunch academic, gave her an ultimatum: choose between continuing her education or taking KSh 3,000 and moving out. Though she chose a different path, she acknowledged the role her father’s tough decisions played in shaping her independence.

Kalala has also used her platform to speak on women’s empowerment, cautioning against having children before being fully prepared—financially, emotionally, mentally, and physically. Her stance, though bold, reflects her broader message of taking control of one’s life and choices.

Her transparency about her struggles and the support she received from her family has resonated with many online. From comments praising her courage to those who related to her financial struggles, it’s clear that Kalala’s story has struck a chord with many young Kenyans navigating similar transitions.

Through it all, King Kalala continues to reinvent herself, proving that even without a safety net, it’s possible to land on your feet—with faith, resilience, and the right people by your side.
