The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has once again pushed back the deadline for course applications due to persistent issues plaguing its online portal. In a recent announcement dated Sunday, April 25, the placement service declared an indefinite extension of the application period until all eligible students have successfully submitted their applications. Initially set for Monday, February 26, the application deadline has now been prolonged until KUCCPS ensures comprehensive coverage among its targeted student demographic.

KUCCPS directs students on payments

In a statement, KUCCPS emphasized the need for students to refrain from making duplicate payments, cautioning that the verification process has been extended due to the government’s consolidation of pay bill services into a single platform. The transition to the eCitizen platform for government payments has led to prolonged payment validation procedures, thus necessitating vigilance among applicants to avoid redundancy in their transactions.

Furthermore, KUCCPS assured applicants that the processing of placements would commence once all candidates have finalized their course selections. Stressing fairness, the service pledged that no individual would be disadvantaged based on the timing of their application submission.

Revision opportunities

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service outlined two subsequent revision opportunities following the initial placement exercise. These revisions are intended to accommodate students who may have missed the initial application window or failed to secure their desired courses, offering them a chance to reapply and adjust their preferences accordingly.

This extension marks the second instance of deadline postponement by KUCCPS, reflecting ongoing challenges in rectifying system issues. Dr. Agnes Mercy Wahome, CEO of KUCCPS, reiterated the commitment to ensuring equitable access to higher education opportunities for all applicants. Despite the extension, concerns persist among parents and students regarding the efficacy of the application process, with many citing frustrations over payment processing delays and technical glitches on the portal.

Reports of error messages disrupting the application process after payment completion have surfaced, underscoring the urgency for system improvements. While the extended deadline offers a reprieve for applicants, its effectiveness hinges on the resolution of underlying technical issues that have marred the user experience.

In conclusion, while KUCCPS extends its application deadline in response to ongoing challenges, the focus must now shift towards addressing systemic deficiencies to streamline the application process. Only through sustained efforts to enhance portal functionality and alleviate payment processing delays can KUCCPS ensure a smoother, more efficient application experience for aspiring students across Kenya.
