UEFA has announced the three finalists for the Best Player of the Year award and has incomprehensibly left Leo Messi out of the podium.
A full-blown insult for the Barça footballer, who has been the European top scorer and winner of a League and Cup double.
Precisely the UEFA jury awards the best footballer on his merits during the season. The only requirement is that you must played with a European club.
And Messi is not among the best despite having won two titles, being the top scorer in Spain and the European Golden Boot with 34 goals.
Cristiano Ronaldo, favorite to take the prize for the third consecutive year, has in his merits to have won the Champions League.
Luka Modric, after raising new Champions, also became the best footballer of the World Cup in Russia, and now could snatch the prize to his former teammate.
And Mohamed Salah is premiering in the Top 3 after being the top scorer in England and leading Liverpool to the final of the European top competition.
An election will come from a jury made up of 80 coaches from the clubs that participated in the Champions League and in the Europa League, with 55 journalists chosen by the European Union.
Now we just have to wait until next August 30 to get out of doubt with the winner. The announcement will be during the draw of the Champions League group stage in Monaco.
Of course, Leo Messi, although he will not win the prize, is among the three best strikers of the year. Compete against Cristiano and Salah, two of the finalists for the main prize.
The Argentine will not have a prize.
