Popular Luo comedian Min Jacky, formerly known as Professor Amata, has opened up about how adopting a cross-dressing persona boosted his comedy career and financial standing. In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Min Jacky shared his journey and revealed why he made the bold decision to ditch his previous character and embrace his current one.

Min Jacky’s transition from Professor Amata, a character that didn’t fully resonate with his audience, to a cross-dressing woman in his comedy acts has been a turning point in his career. According to the comedian, the change not only revived his act but also unlocked new opportunities and income streams.

“Before I started acting as Min Jacky, I struggled in the comedy industry because Professor Amata’s character was less entertaining,” Min Jacky revealed. “Acting as a woman gives me the flexibility to explore more comedic angles and collaborate with a wider range of people. Cross-dressing has opened doors for me financially, and I have no plans to abandon the character.”

The comedian, who is also a father of four, credits the success of his new persona for helping him thrive in the competitive entertainment industry. He shared that the character has become integral to his life and financial success. “Min Jacky has transformed my life in ways I never imagined. This character is part of my identity now, and it pays my bills,” he stated.

Despite occasional criticism, Min Jacky remains unapologetic about his cross-dressing, emphasizing that his work is rooted in natural talent and pure entertainment. He also responded to those who question his spiritual beliefs due to his choice to cross-dress: “If someone says I won’t make it to heaven because of cross-dressing, so be it. It’s God who gave me this talent, and I am using it to entertain people. I’ve never declared myself a born-again Christian, so those expectations do not bind me.”

Min Jacky’s remarks come after fellow comedian Protus Wangamati, also known as Baba Kaunty, recently embraced a similar transformation. Protus, who has occasionally cross-dressed and worn makeup, shared his own experience of embracing change, especially after a public confrontation with rapper Bamboo, who encouraged him to stay true to his faith.

For Min Jacky, however, the focus remains firmly on the benefits of his character in the entertainment industry. “I’m committed to Min Jacky, and I know I’ll continue to succeed with this persona,” he concluded. The comedian’s success story highlights how evolving and embracing change in the entertainment industry can lead to unexpected rewards.
