Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has suspended Matatu CBD Ban a day after it created chaos and dramatic traffic congestion in the city.
After Monday’s pilot project of decongesting Nairobi’s CBD, I have suspended gazette notice 4479 of 12th May 2017 with immediate effect. We’ve noted with deep concern the plight of commuters if the ban was to be effected without the missing link of a commuter train & BRT system- Sonko said.
Yesterday, Nairobi CBD remained a no go zone as most of the entry points had been guards by armed anti-riot police squad, allowing only not PSV vehicles access.
The CBD remained free of jam as the rest of its entry points were totally parked, one would not enter CBD on ease or leave CBD in peace.
Commuters trekked long distances to connect with their matatus while others could not even find the location of their matatu.
