Popular Kenyan YouTuber and media personality Oga Obinna recently reunited with his lastborn daughter, Ella, after spending time apart, but the meeting took an unexpected turn. Obinna, who has four other children, revealed that the encounter was emotionally challenging as Ella struggled to recognise him.
The comedian had previously hinted on social media that he was facing difficulties with Ella’s mother, Tallie, suggesting he had been denied access to his daughter. Tallie later clarified that the situation was a misunderstanding, which has since been resolved.
On December 1, during a live show recording for his YouTube channel, Tallie arrived with Ella to see Obinna. When informed that his daughter had arrived, Obinna rushed out of the studio to greet her. He embraced her lovingly, but Ella appeared hesitant and pulled away toward her mother. Despite his repeated attempts to connect, including reminding her that he was her father, the toddler preferred to stay close to her mother, showing signs of distress.
Obinna described the encounter as heartbreaking. “She has not seen me for a minute, woiye mum. I am having a lot of mixed reactions because I just met my daughter after a long while. My daughter did not even recognise me, or we can say partially recognised me. Mtoto wangu ananikataa, that is very heartbreaking,” he said.
Despite the rejection, Obinna expressed gratitude for the opportunity to finally see his daughter. He also shared videos showing their bond from months earlier, before the period of separation. It is notable that Obinna only recently became aware of Ella’s birth, as Tallie had not informed him during her pregnancy.
Fans and social media users shared mixed reactions to the reunion. Some reassured Obinna that it was normal for children to cling to primary caregivers, while others praised him as a loving father. Comments included, “Normal for babies that age. They are clingy to those they spend most time with. When she turns 2, she will remember you very easily,” and “Take heart. Kids react like this when separation has been long. Just make sure you see her often moving forward. All is well.”
Obinna continues to maintain strong relationships with his other children and expressed hope that consistent interactions will help rebuild his bond with Ella. The reunion highlights the emotional challenges parents face when separated from young children and underscores the importance of patience and time in nurturing parental relationships.
