During the 55th Jamhuri day celebrations, many Kenyan were left in awe when President Uhuru Kenyatta stepped out in his full army regalia for the first time.
President Uhuru Kenyatta would however use the regalia occasionally while attending functions at Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) or the armed forces.
He first used it in 2014 while presiding at a military function at Archer’s Post in Samburu, later he would also use same year during the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) Day at the Kenya Military Academy in Lanet, Nakuru and also at the Kenya Navy’s 50th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa, all in 2014.
In 2016, he used the same attire during the the General Service Unit (GSU) pass out parade
Today he had several reasons to don the C-I-C ceremonial uniform.
- He was handing over a flag to the newly established 17 battalion military unit based in Garissa.
- He was also presenting the battalion with presidential and regimental colours
- He had to put on the regalia so as to identify himself as the C-I-C rather than a President during the handing over of the purple colour flag
