Police Strip Bearded Female Tout To Confirm Her Gender

Huruma Police Station, in Nairobi have been accused by a female matatu tout after they strip searched her to check her gender.

On May 15th this year, Mumbi Maina , aged 31 says that she was forced by police to strip in order to identify her gender.

The mother of one kid with beards notes that the police had claimed a bribe of sh.400 before they could arrest and lock them up

“They demanded Sh400 bribe and when it was not forthcoming, they locked us up,” she said.

The police are said to have handled Mumbi in away that traumatized her for more than 7 days as she stayed away from work just to ensure her safety

“Two female officers called me and demanded that I undress and spread my legs apart so that they could confirm that I’m a woman. After checking my private parts they told me to dress up and go back to the cell,” Mumbi said.

The woman has launched an official co,plain of he humiliation at the same police station
