Comedian Professor Hamo has opened up about the financial and emotional turmoil he faced after his affair with fellow comedian Jemutai went public. In a candid interview, Hamo revealed that the scandal cost him KSh 14 million as brands he had partnered with abandoned him.
Reflecting on his downfall, Hamo admitted that money was flowing in during his late 30s, but poor financial decisions coupled with the public scandal led to his ruin. According to him, agencies and business partners withdrew from their agreements, and he found himself isolated professionally.
“I was in my 30s, money was coming in, but I made terrible decisions. When the scandal broke, nobody cared if it was true or false; everything crumbled. I lost deals worth KSh 14 million,” he recounted.
Despite the massive setback, Hamo credited his wife, Zipporah, for standing by him during the dark period. He recalled how she refused to engage in social media fights and instead urged him to focus on rebuilding his life and turning to God. Her support became the foundation for his comeback.
“She told me she wasn’t going to fight this war on social media. She asked me what we would be fighting for. She encouraged me to return to God, and I did. She had already noticed I was falling into a hole before I even opened up to her,” Hamo shared.
While the scandal was a major contributor to his downfall, Hamo acknowledged that it also led to personal growth and healing. He revealed that through the ordeal, he was able to confront deeper issues in his life, including past struggles with substance abuse. He also embraced fatherhood, which he considers one of the silver linings of the experience.
“The experience helped me become a better father and heal from issues I had been battling,” he noted.
Meanwhile, Jemutai had earlier revealed that she turned down a KSh 5 million deal because she was pregnant and feared the exposure would reveal her relationship with Hamo. She also opened up about going through the pregnancy alone, with Hamo meeting their child for the first time when he was already eight months old.
Hamo’s journey serves as a testament to resilience and redemption, proving that with the right support system and personal determination, one can rise from the lowest of moments to rebuild their life.
