To date, attempts to create a male contraceptive pill that was truly effective had failed. Most worked producing hormonal changes in the male, and the problem is that they had many side effects ranging from causing irreparable damage to male fertility to the risk of causing malformations in the newborn.
But, now, Australian researchers have designed a new drug that acts on two proteins (α1A-adrenergic receptor and P2X1-purinergic receptor). And the result is that changes occur in the male’s sperm that prevents them from reaching their target in the female’s organism.
The pill has been successfully tested in mice, and now it is necessary to do the same in humans. Although its creators are very optimistic about the results they will get.
