Popular TikToker Rish Kamunge has finally broken her silence on the harrowing experience she endured while in jail after being arrested over allegations of defrauding Kenyans through her job placement agency. During a recent TikTok live session with fellow content creator Obidan Dela, Rish opened up about the challenges she faced, revealing that her time in custody was filled with uncertainty, discomfort, and emotional struggles.
Life Behind Bars: Rish Kamunge’s Jail Experience
Rish described the conditions in jail as far from comfortable, noting that she was stripped of basic comforts, including her phone. She recalled having nothing to focus on other than praying and surrendering to the will of God.
“You do not have anything, you do not even have your phone. When I was there, nothing much was in my head, I was like let the will of God be done, I prayed,” she shared during the live session.
Despite the discomfort, Rish revealed that she had been through worse situations in her life, which helped her stay composed while in jail. She also mentioned the uncertainty of her legal situation, unsure if she would be granted bond or sent to remand.
“It is not a place that is nice but I think I have been in worse positions than jela. When you are there you do not even know when you go to court if you will be given bond or you will go to remand,” she explained.
Restricted Visitors and Emotional Strain
Rish also discussed the emotional toll of being in jail, especially the lack of contact with loved ones. Due to the nature of her case, only her lawyers were permitted to visit her, which added to the isolation she felt. She recalled how surprising it was to see Obidan, who she had not expected to visit her, thinking he was there for news gathering.
“Seeing me was hard, the only people that could see me was my lawyers and I was even surprised to see you, Obidan, coming to see me. You were the least of people I expected to see, I actually thought that you were coming to gather news,” she said.
Staying Strong Despite the Circumstances
Despite the trying conditions, Rish made sure to maintain her appearance, joking that she had still managed to “look good” even while incarcerated.
“Nilikuwa nimepiga luku,” (I had still done my hair) she added, showing her ability to find some lightness in the situation.
The Arrest and Allegations Against Rish Kamunge
Rish’s arrest followed a dramatic incident on March 26 when a group of job seekers stormed her office in Nairobi’s CBD, demanding answers for overseas job placements they had paid for but never received. The agitated job seekers presented what they claimed was proof of payments made to Rish’s agency for jobs abroad that never materialized. This led to a police investigation and Rish’s subsequent arrest.
Some victims of her alleged scam shared their stories with the media, with one recounting how they had been stranded at the airport despite fulfilling all requirements for the job placement.
Rish Kamunge’s time in jail proved to be a challenging and uncertain period in her life, but her resilience and composure during the ordeal have been commendable. As the investigation continues, her ability to maintain her dignity and sense of humor in the face of adversity speaks to her inner strength. The case remains a topic of public interest, as many await further developments.
