Former journalist Salim Swaleh has clarified the circumstances behind a viral video that showed him in tears while apologising to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi. The video, which spread widely across social media, drew intense public attention and sparked debate about his legal and personal situation. Salim has now stated that the recording was never meant for public viewing and was originally sent as a private message. He explained that the clip resurfaced later after it was leaked online without his consent. The former NTV presenter said the experience reopened a painful moment in his life that he had been trying to process privately. His clarification adds new context to a situation that had already generated strong public reactions.

Salim Swaleh said the emotional recording was made during a difficult period connected to an ongoing court case that left him mentally strained. He described leaving court after a session that he found overwhelming and emotionally heavy. According to him, the pressure of the case and the uncertainty around the outcome created a sense of distress. He said he recorded the message shortly after that court appearance when emotions were still high. He insisted that at the time, he believed he was communicating privately with a trusted recipient. The video later surfaced online, leading to widespread interpretation that he had intended it for public sympathy.

He further explained that his relationship with Musalia Mudavadi dates back several years, which influenced his decision to reach out personally. Salim said they had known each other since around 2011 and had maintained a professional connection over time. He added that the situation surrounding the court matter created distance between them, leaving him feeling the need to clarify his position directly. He said he attempted to reach Mudavadi through intermediaries in an effort to resolve misunderstandings. However, he stated that only one brief conversation took place, and no deeper discussion followed. He maintained that his intention was always to resolve the matter privately rather than through public exposure.

The former journalist said the decision to record the emotional message came after what he described as a particularly heavy day in court. He stated that he felt mentally exhausted and uncertain about how the case would unfold. In that moment, he chose to speak directly into his phone and send a personal message instead of continuing to rely on intermediaries. He said he went into a private space, recorded the message, and sent it with the expectation that it would remain confidential. The tone of the video reflected his emotional state at the time, which he described as overwhelmed and unsettled. He stressed that the recording was not intended for public circulation under any circumstances.

Salim Swaleh also expressed concern over the impact the leaked video had on his personal life, especially his family. He said the circulation of the clip online created emotional strain for his children, who were confronted with public attention at school. He explained that they were told about the video by other people, which made the situation more difficult to manage at home. He described the leak as deeply painful because it exposed a private moment during an already challenging period. He also noted that the public reaction often missed the context in which the message was created. According to him, the spread of the video changed how people interpreted his actions and intensified scrutiny on his situation.

The controversy around the viral clip has since raised broader discussions about privacy, digital sharing, and the consequences of leaked personal content. Salim Swaleh maintains that the message was never intended for public consumption and insists that its circulation distorted the original purpose. His clarification seeks to correct what he views as widespread misunderstanding of his emotional state during the court process. The incident highlights how quickly private communications can become public and shape narratives in unpredictable ways. It also shows the lasting impact that viral content can have on individuals and their families. Salim’s explanation closes with a reminder of the personal toll behind public controversies and the importance of context when private moments enter the public space.
