Popular Mugithi singer Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, has addressed rumors about his potential bid for the Nyandarua parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election. While he had previously dropped hints that he might run, Samidoh recently declared in court that he has no immediate plans to vie, leaving fans divided.
Samidoh’s name has been linked to politics following a series of actions that many interpreted as political groundwork. The singer was reportedly transferred from his police job after joining anti-government chants, fueling speculation about a shift to a political career. Additionally, his visit to the United States included sharing a photo with his son tagged #oljoro_orok001, hinting at interest in the Ol Joro Orok constituency.
Locally, Samidoh’s charitable activities, such as donating food to residents in Nyandarua, added to the perception that he was preparing for a political campaign. These gestures are common among politicians aiming to build support ahead of elections.
The narrative changed during court proceedings on August 10. While testifying in the mysterious death case of his cousin Jeff Mwathi, lawyer Danstan Omari asked if Samidoh planned to run for any political seat in Nyandarua. Samidoh’s response was straightforward: “So far, no.”
This answer surprised many loyal fans who had hoped for his political entry. Social media reactions were mixed. Some urged him to reconsider and enter politics, citing his popularity and connection to the community. Others questioned his suitability for political office.
Comments ranged from optimism—“If I was a resident of Nyandarua, I would give him my vote”—to skepticism—“I don’t think he can make a good lawmaker.” Some supporters encouraged him to try regardless, while others felt he should wait until 2032 or focus on other roles.
Samidoh’s situation highlights the complex relationship between celebrity status and political aspirations in Kenya. Fans often expect popular figures to transition into leadership roles, but such moves require careful planning and commitment.
At this stage, Samidoh appears focused on his ongoing legal matters and music career. Whether he will eventually join politics remains uncertain. His fans, however, continue to watch closely, divided between hope and doubt.
The coming months will likely reveal more about Samidoh’s future plans. For now, his clear statement of “no” to political ambitions puts the speculation to rest, at least temporarily.
