Scientists from USA’s Stony Brook University of Medicine in New York have established that a dead person knows when he or she is dead.

The researchers were convinced that dead people are aware of their new status because their brains remain functioning for few seconds or even minutes after death pronouncement by doctors.

According to the scientists, this is because doctors only rely on heartbeat and pulses to ascertain whether a person is still alive or dead.

These experts believed that even as doctors declare you dead and your heart stops working, you will be still trapped in the dead body as your consciousness keeps working with brain still functioning.

Arriving at the conclusion, Sr Sam Parnia based his work studying and examining  cases of consciousness after death by researching cardiac arrest cases in Europe and the US.

The best examples were of those who survived heart attack. The victims were able to explain the happenings around them which had happened during the time when they were ‘clinically’ dead before being brought back to life again.

This would mean that the dead would also be aware of  bad news from doctors as his or her friends and families go into wailing and bursting into tears.
