Nominated senator Gloria Orwoba recently invited Kenyans into her home, giving a rare glimpse of her personal life and her newborn baby. The politician, who is widely known for her activism and bold stance on menstrual health, revealed that she is a proud mother of two, contrary to public perception that she was a first-time mom.
Gloria Orwoba’s Journey to Motherhood
In an interview with Art of Living’s Nailantei Kenga, Orwoba disclosed that she has two children, with her firstborn now 17 years old. She admitted that many Kenyans assumed her recent pregnancy was her first, but she was intentional about having a second child.
“You know this is my second-born, but I try to pretend that it’s the only child I have because people assume that I do not have another child. But there is a glow that comes with motherhood. It is fulfilling. I really wanted this child,” she shared.
The senator further explained that her second pregnancy was smooth, and she was grateful for the experience. However, she found it amusing how some members of the public reacted to her being pregnant while in office.
“It was nice to experience all the changes—the nose, the cravings. It was also fun to see what people were saying publicly. Apparently, legislators are not supposed to be pregnant. People were like, ‘Eh, that senator is pregnant?’ It was a good pregnancy. I had a good support system, and we thank God,” she added.
Challenges of Motherhood at 40
Orwoba revealed that her two children are 17 years apart, acknowledging that she wasn’t fully prepared for motherhood the first time around as she was still focused on her education.
“I feel like with my firstborn, I wasn’t ready. I was young, which was not a bad thing, but I needed to finish my studies, get into my career, and time just passed by. Then suddenly, 17 years later, I was about to clock 40, and I realized I needed another baby,” she explained.
She admitted that having a child later in life came with its own set of challenges, including having to take supplements to support her pregnancy. She advised women to consider having children earlier when the body is more prepared for the journey.
“When you are older, it is a bit more difficult. So, get your kids when you are young,” she cautioned.
Addressing Baby Daddy Rumors
With her new addition to the family, speculation about the identity of Orwoba’s baby’s father has been rife. However, the senator chose to address the matter in a lighthearted manner. While showing her newborn’s face, she simply stated, “There is only one father,” dismissing the rumors with a smile.
Inside Gloria Orwoba’s Home
During the interview, Orwoba also gave a tour of her stunning home, showcasing its spacious rooms and elegant decor. The home, which reflects her taste and personality, was a testament to her success and the life she has built for her family.
A Proud Mother of Two
Despite her demanding political career, Orwoba remains a devoted mother who finds joy in raising her children. Her openness about motherhood, pregnancy challenges, and public scrutiny has resonated with many Kenyan women, sparking conversations about balancing career ambitions and family life.
Her story is a powerful reminder that motherhood comes in different forms and at different stages of life—and that no matter the timing, the joy of bringing a child into the world remains unmatched.
