Atleast 48 people have been confirmed dead after a private dam broke its barriers before flooding the immediate village.

Ordinary people leading rescue & recovery efforts on their own.

The tragedy happened on Wednesday night at around 7.30pm on the dam which lies adjacent to River Kabazi in Nakuru county.

The waters are said to have hit Nyakinyua village before going on to flash another next village known as Energey Village.

A Mhindi horticulture farmer in Solai, Nakuru completely blocked a river upstream, residents could not get water downstream. Residents complained even to the area MP not just about the shortage of water but also about an impending tragedy if the dam was to burst.#SolaiDamTragedy
