Rish Kamunge, a popular TikToker, has broken her silence after being arrested for allegedly scamming Kenyans with fake job opportunities abroad. Her arrest came after several individuals who had secured employment through her agency were left stranded in Mauritius.
Arrest and Allegations
Rish Kamunge was arrested on March 27 following complaints from Kenyans who accused her of fraudulent job placement services. Reports indicate that some of the victims were promised jobs in Mauritius but later discovered that the hotels they were supposed to work at did not exist. This left them stranded in the foreign country, leading to their deportation back to Kenya. One of the victims, John Munju, disclosed that his grandmother sold cows to pay for his placement fee, only to be left without a job or a refund.
Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Rish was released on a KSh 5 million bond while investigations into the matter continue.
Rish Kamunge’s Response
After her release, Rish took to TikTok Live to share her side of the story. She expressed disappointment over how her close friends abandoned her during the legal turmoil. According to her, they stopped answering her calls when she needed support the most.
“You are alone. I will just tell you these words: trust in God. You do not have friends. When I got into issues, all my friends ran away. They stopped picking phone calls,” she lamented.
She also revealed that after the news of her arrest went viral, she received an overwhelming number of calls, forcing her to divert some to other phones.
Still in the Business
Despite the controversy surrounding her business, Rish Kamunge declared that she is still in the job placement industry. She urged Kenyans interested in traveling abroad to contact her, though she refrained from discussing the legal case, citing restrictions imposed by the court.
Meanwhile, many victims continue to share their experiences of losing money in their pursuit of job opportunities through Rish Kamunge’s services. The case has drawn national attention, with many Kenyans calling for stricter regulations on agencies that promise overseas employment.
Authorities continue to investigate the allegations, and Rish has promised to give her full account once the legal process concludes.
