Security concerns on Saturday of last week in September 2018, saw Former Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission director Patrick Lumumba denied entry into Zambian territory, this was according to Zambian police authority.
PLO Lumumba had been scheduled to give a speech during Eden University’s graduation thereafter visit former President Kenneth Lusaka.
But his visit was cut short by the immigration office in Zambia.
“Govt through immigration dept has denied entry into Zambia of Prof. Patrick Lumumba, a Kenyan national due to security considerations. Immigration is a security wing working with agencies within and beyond Zambia,” replied Zambian Minister for Information Dora Siliya.
On his side, Lumumba felt he was treated ‘appropriate dignity’
“I pose threat to no one. I travel all over Africa,” he said.
Populist Nairobi City lawyer Donald Kipkorir however felt like Zambian President Edgar Lungu had short-changed PLO when he learned that he was going to give a speech on how China had colonized Zambia.
“My friend was going to talk about the Colonization of Zambia by China. It wasn’t lost on you that PLO is a friend of the founder of Zambia. Kenneth Kaunda liberated Zambia but you have given away Zambia to China for 30 pieces of silver. China gave you loans that you knew poor and miserable Zambia can’t pay. Yet you secured the loans that you knew poor and miserable Zambia can’t pay,” posted lawyer Korir.
China is one of the biggest investors in Zambia as well as their main trade partner. In return most government tenders are awarded to Chinese constructors.
Zambian public debt official stands at 10.6 billion US dollars which the largest debt owned to the Chinese government.
