The varsity regulator has given a guideline on what students should suppose they were caught up in the milieu surrounding over 132 ‘fake’ degree courses.

According to the Commission for University Education (CUE) chief executive officer Mwenda Ntarangwi, students should not panic because they are working together with the affected learning institutions to streamline the hitches.

“We have taken care of the issues of programmes that were not approved and working with universities to iron out any lingering issues. There is no cause for alarm. We value students and don’t want them to panic,” said Prof Ntarangwi.

He also added that some of the courses had not been approved because institutions had not submitted required papers for approval.

“Some were not submitted to CUE and in others we used feedback received from universities about their capacities. We used our standards and calculated capacities for programmes against the information the universities declared,” said Prof Ntarangwi.

The CUE audit report which was published recently, found out that more than 26 varsities were offering atleast 132 courses which had not been approved.
