The tool for the blind is that light rod and about one meter long, which identifies blind people and assists them in all their movements, but there is a meaning of the cane for the blind depending on the color .

With the urban and technological development of the 20th century, the risks for the blind increased  especially with the arrival of the automobile.

The streets were more dangerous and the dark, ordinary sticks went unnoticed and did not serve as a warning to drivers that the carrier could be a blind person who is risking his life without knowing it.

So it was that by the year 1921, James Biggs , an Englishman with visual impairment, painted his staff in white and managed to move through the streets with greater security.

A decade later, this practical solution had already spread to many countries.

But, although the white cane identifies the blind in general, other colors and particular characteristics have been determined to indicate some groups with different visual disabilities.

Meaning of the cane for the blind depending on the color and types

The World Federation of the Deafblind established the cane of red and white colors to identify those who are blind and deaf.

In Kenya, the section that touches the ground is white and then alternates with the red color.

The appearance of the green cane is more recent and dates back to the year 2011.

The needs for mobilization that people with less or low vision have are somewhat different from those of the blind, or the deaf blind.

People with low vision are those who cover only between 1/3 and 1/10 of their field of vision, about 20º, when it is normal to cover 180º.

In some Latin American countries, they use the yellow cane instead of the green cane, which identifies people with low vision.

At present and thanks to technological development, there are other complements that help the group to become independent in their day to day.

For example, the OrCam MyEye camera , an intelligent machine vision camera, transmits to the user the content of any text, can identify faces, recognize different products and check the value of the tickets. You can read signs, signs and the name of the streets.

That is, it makes life a little easier and safer.
