HELB is now considering making it mandatory for loan beneficiaries to produce clearance certificate before getting married.
According to HELB CEO Charles Ringera, the proposal is an exploration to catch former students defaulting payments as they will not receive marriage certificates without the HELB clearance.
Ringera made the revelation on Friday while in Eldoret during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the board and Uasin Gishu County.
Uasin Gishu government agreed to help the lender recover money lent to students who studied at technical colleges in the region.
“I urge those who are working to get in touch with our office in order to be assisted to start the repayment process so that others can also benefit,” said Ringera.
Governor Ken Mandago said that contractors seeking tenders from his government will need the HELB clearance before engaging in any business.
“There is no way you will be earning Sh 3Million, yet you do not pay your debts,” he said.
