Kenyan girl Margaret Nyamumbo based in the United State, was the 1st Kenyan to ever win in the Shark Tank series.

In February 2023, she won an investment deal worth Kshs. 44M for her coffee business ‘Kahawa 1893’.

Margaret Nyamumbo is the founder and CEO of Kahawa 1893, a firm that exports African coffee to America.

  1. Margaret moved to USA via a scholarship from Kenya to study at Harvard Business School
  2. To get her ticket to USA, her family had to merge with the village in order to fundraise
  3. Upon landing in USA, she had only about Sh.20,000 in her pockets
  4. She moved straight from a coffee farm to the US university
  5. She was born in Kenya, Kisii County to humble parents
  6. Margaret went to the Shark Team seeking to raise Sh.44 million for 5% equity. She left with a deal of Sh. 44M for 8% of the company which valued her business
  7.  She made her proposal on Shark Tank Season 14 Episode 14
  8. She founded Kahawa 1893 in 2017 and began selling it at retail giant, Target, 2022.
  9. Her Kahawa 1893 is the first 1st Black woman-owned coffee brand to be stocked at Trader Joe’s in US
  10. Her Coffee is majorly sourced in Kenya.
