By the second month in 2019, death should not have been proud, because Kenyans had already lost a number of celebs who deserved to live longer.
The year we expected to stay longer before we lose our talented celebs, death was not patient with us, and so went on to claim his way.
I just wish one day, death will also die a cruel death so as it can feel the kind of pain we go through when we lose our loved ones.
Here are celebs Kenyans have so far lost in 2019.
1.Kone- Actor
The celebrated actor Kone Nouhoum passed on at Nairobi Hospital Intensive Care Unit on 28th February 2019.
Kone famously featured in ‘Selina’ series, making his name wide in acting market.
In 2018 October, he survived a horrific road accident in Naivasha.
His spine was badly injured and his dead bobbed backwards
He also played in ‘Mali’ and ‘This is life’ series.
2.Kantai- Legendary rapper
Kenyan music fraternity was thrown into mourning on 27th February 2019 evening after they lost legendary rapper Chris Kantai.
According to the local reports, the rapper has been fighting alcoholism and drug abuse.
3.Nyatiti Maestro Ogada
On February 2nd into 2019, Kenyans were mourning the death of legendary Nyatiti maestro Ayub Ogada better known as Job Seda.
Here are some little known facts you should know about Ayub Ogada
- He died aged 63 years old.
- Koth Biro -loosely translated in luo as Rain Is Coming- was one of his top music. At one point, Koth Biro was sang at Rio 2016 Olympics as Kenya’s athletics legend Kipchoge Keino received the Olympic Laurel award.
- In one of the top Hollywood popular movies, he was also a cast, he was used in ‘The Constant Gardener’ and NBC’s ‘The Philanthropist’
- Top alcoholic brand Guinness also used him during their advertising campaign across Africa
- He was also featured in Motion Pictures’ ‘Out of Africa’ and ‘The Kitchen Toto’
- Ayub Ogada and his fellow James Mbarack Achieng were credited by American top rapper Kanye West where he noted that his track Yikes from Ye album borrowed lyrics and composition partly from one of their tracks
4.Caroline- Activist
The body of missing human rights activist Caroline Mwatha was found in Nairobi’s City Mortuary on February 12 , 2019
Caroline’s body was booked at the morgue on 7th February, a day after she was reported missing.
Postmortem report indicated that she died from procuring abortion which caused her excessive bleeding leading to her death
5.James Odu
Football fan and player late James ‘Odu’ Oduor aka Odu Cobra was confirmed dead on his birthday on 16th January 2019.
Before he met his killers at the Dusit D2 terror attack, he had tweeted on his handle the danger that was immense.
His celeb friends went on to mourn him on Twitter.
“My friend from university was killed on the eve of his birthday. This was his last tweet. He was one of the nicest, happiest people I’ve ever met. Rest well, Odu, nind maber. The world is better because you lived.”
BBC business editor Larry Madowo tweeted
“Yes. We were all friends with Odu. A force in Kenyan football. Very sad. Praying for his little girl and the dozens of families affected by this tragedy. RIP.” sports journalist Carol Radull said
6.Bruce Odhiambo- Former Youth Boss
Kenyans were mourning the untimely death of former Youth Enterprise Fund chairman and popular music producer Bruce Odhiambo who died at Nairobi Hospital on Monday 7th January in 2019.
He had been admitted at the facility’s ICU but unfortunately death had its way.
“Yes its true Bruce is dead. He died yesterday evening (Monday) but we wouldn’t want to comment further. We kindly ask the media to respect our privacy over the same,” Steve, a close relative to the deceased told local daily.
In November 2018 just after he returned from India where he had sought special treatment, he developed heart complications .
In same year 2018, he had traveled to India to replace his pacemaker, an electrical device which was implanted under his skin to help manage irregular heartbeats.
The 2016 proved to be a tough time for Bruce who was a close friend to President Uhuru Kenyatta, he was forced to resign from his post as Youth Fund Chair after being embroiled in the 180 million scandal.
Late Youth Fund CEO Catharine Namuye who had also been accused in the saga, died mysteriously at her home in Kileleshwa, then in 2016
7.Sidindi- Impala Player
On 25th February 2019, Impala Saracens were mourning the death of their fullback defender Richard Akoth Sidindi aka Real Jadhah Power.
He died on 25th February 2019 in the morning while swimming at Impala Sports Club swimming pool, Nairobi.
“It appears that there was some swimming pool incident where Sidindi was alone but we are still gathering information on what really happened,” said Impala Saracens Director of Rugby, Fred Ollows, who was at Kilimani Police Station to record a statement.
“We shall definitely communicate when we get full details,” said Ollows, who was at the Police Station with first responders to the incident to record statements.
8.Mildred Odira- Nation media Switchboard Operator
Nation Media Group Switchboard operator, mother of one was killed in another mysterious situation.
She woke up on one morning around 4am headed for hospital when her health had worsened.
Only to be found dead in Kasarani in a pool of blood
Her death too, happened in 2019 February.
9. Bernadette Konjalo
She was a receptionist at the hotel during the attack.
The beautiful lady met her killers at Dusit D2 hotel.
10.Tabitha Muthoni
A fresher at JKUAT was killed in February 2019 when robbers stamped her to death.
Tabitha would be pronounced dead at JKUAT hospital.
The incident happened on February 7th 2019 at night , 8pm
