10 New COVID-19 Restrictions Issued By President Uhuru’s 11th Address In 2020 August

On 26th August 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s 11th address on the status of COVID-19 cases stated that COVID-19 cases in the country rose by 213 bringing the total caseload to 33,016. And led to death of five more people while 241 others have recovered.

  1. The positivity rate countrywide has fallen from a high of 13% in June to 8% in August. This means Kenya has a chance of reaching a 5% positivity rate for a total reopening of our economy.
  2. President Uhuru ordered Health CS Mutahi Kagwe to form a team to review efficacy of country’s response to Covid-19 and record lessons learnt.
  3. He also ordered the immediate investigation into loss of COVID-19 funds that were allegedly stolen via KEMSA agency.
  4. A task forced to be formed by Interior Ministry to decide Kenya’s future with COVID-19
  5. Ban on opening of Bars and night clubs to continue, Alcohol can be sold by hotels which are licensed
  6. Close of hotels and eateries to be extended from 7pm to 8pm from 27th August
  7. Attendance of funerals and weddings – increased from 15 to 100 people
  8. Ban on sell of Mitumba is lifted and more details to follow
  9. Sporting events to resume under the guidance of Sports Ministry
  10. Nationwide 9PM to 4AM curfew is extended for 30 more days
