Charles Njagua Kanyi popularly known by stage name as Jaguar is one of the Kenyan celebrated musician. He has not only risen to the higher ranks of popularity in music industry but also in high ranks of wealth. He is one of the richest musician in East Africa. Irrespective of challenges he encountered during his early life, he has surmounted them to success. One of his greatest hit that brought him to public limelight is kigeugeu.

Here are some facts about Jaguar

10. Jaguar was turned away from school because he couldn’t speak English. His education was almost coming to an end after Musa Gitau Primary school refused to admit him because he could not speak in English. Had it not been for the mercy of the headmaster of Magutuini Primary School, his education would have ended.

9. He hawked water at Thogoto Shopping Centre. His door to brighter future through education was closing. His mother had just passed away. His uncle could not raise school fees. His only source of income was to sell water.

8. He is a board member of National Agency for Campaign Against Drug Abuse (Nacada). He was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta due to his influence among the youth. He even raised the red flag on corruption in Nacada.

7. He is a close friend to Nairobi senator Mike Sonko. Their friendship started long before Sonko joined politics. They were both working in matatu industry. Jaguar was washing cars while Sonko was operating matatus. He even called off his trip to London to be with Sonko when his father passed away.

6. He donated a Toyota Rav 4 for his headmaster who made him finish his primary education. Mr Evans Githigu, former headteacher at Magutuini Primary School got the surprise from Jaguar during mass service at PCEA Thogoto mid last year.

5. He is the founder and director of Jaguar Youth Empowerment Foundation(JYEF). The Foundation targets inspiring and empowering youth to attain sustainable living.

4. He is one of the richest musician in East Africa. He owns car models such as Jaguar, Range Rover Sports, Lexus and Mercedes Benz. He owns a big mansion. He has real estate businesses. His close friends are top government officials including president Uhuru Kenyatta.

3. He has a honorary degree from Mount Kenya University. He was awarded the degree on 7th August 2015. He was also appointed Mount Kenya University Goodwill Ambassador.

2. Jaguar is blessed with a daughter named Tamara Njagua. He likes taking her with him when performing at family events.

1. Jaguar neither drink liquor nor smoke. This was a reason the president felt he should be in the board of Nacada. He recently took his father’s car keys, promising to return in case the old man quits liquor. He is unlike many young people who wallow in alcohol with their little earned money. He encourages the youth to save. Saving and investment is the only way to
wealth creation.
