According to Wikipedia, Martial Art can be defined as codified systems and traditions of combat.

Martial Art can be practiced for a number of reasons such as self-defense; military and law enforcement applications; competition; physical, mental, and spiritual development; entertainment; and the preservation of a nation’s intangible cultural heritage.

Although it is highly associated with East Asia, it should be noted that Martial Art also existed in Europe and was popular referred to as combat systems.

There are several types of martial arts spanning upto more than 170, but here are the few more which are most popular.

  5. Jiu-Jitsu. …

In Kenya, martial art is not only gaining popular among the sporting fans, but also among those who want to learn self defence among other reasons.

Here are celebs who are professional martial artists in Kenya .

Lupita Nyongó

Kenyan Hollywood star based in USA is an actress and a martial artist to admire.

In her role as Nakia in Black Panther movie, Lupita had to learn four types of martial art training, namely judo, jujitsu, silat, and Filipino martial arts training

PLO Lumumba

Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba aka PLO Lumumba is a professional lawyer as well as a trained martial artist.

The former Director of Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission also owns a martial art school in Nairobi where he works as trains as the school head.

The current Director of The Kenya School of Laws also runs video lessons on his martial art skills

President Uhuru Kenyatta

President Uhuru Kenyatta was on Wednesday, August 21in 2018, presented with the 8th-degree honorary Black Belt award from the Tong-Il Moo-Doo Federation in appreciation of his continuous support and commitment to the sport.

The award was given to the President by the chairman of the Kenya Tong-Il Moo-Doo Federation Clarence Mwakio Ingalwa.

Edi Gathegi

Edi Mue Gathegi from Kenya has been featured in more Hollywood films than any other Kenyan actor.

Born in 1979, he found himself in the USA when he was 3 years old after his family had moved in California, USA.

He made an appearance in popular series Into The Badlands, he showcased his best martial art while fighting in the movie series.

Akothee

Kenyan singer and dancer Akothee aka Esther Akoth is a fanatic of fitness as well as boxing and Karate moves.

Akothee owns a fitness centre where she along with her kids take regular training
