On January 26, 2018, Rashid Echesa became a public figure when President Uhuru Kenyatta picked him as the head the Sports Ministry.
But even so, his publicity grew more and more, based on two key things; his education level and ugly spat with Raila.
Former CS Echesa was accused of having a compromised Education level, with many claiming that he had a very low key level of education to be a CS.
His publicity continued, when he dared Raila Odinga to sack him, following strong criticism over his education level and delivery of duties trusted on his shoulders.
On tape, he was recorded saying that if NASA leader Raila Odinga was incharge of the CS appointment, he should dare sack him immediately
True to his words, he is now in the cold, and Raila is ‘inside’ the government thanks to the handshake effect
Other reasons that might have led to his sacking
- He was accused of low key performance in the Sports Ministry. Performance allegations came in on his head after he could not sought out issues that have been bedeviling sports in the country
- As a CS, the Katiba doesn’t allow one to bow down to political podiums and start politicking, that’s what Echesa did, he was captured on several occasions addressing political rallies like a normal politician
- His academic standards, as stated earlier were all in question. He is believed not to have stepped anywhere beyond Primary education
- Fallout with fellows at work also might have costed him his job.
Sports Principal Secretary, Kirimi Kaberia came out to press to address his relationship with the sacked CS Echesa when things were not going good - Scandals also docked his administration. He was accused of handing work permits to ‘strippers’ from pakistan who were camouflaged as culture exchange tourists
