While in Europe’s big football tournament Euro, we have blacks playing for the Western nations, we also have white players from Europe playing in Africa’s prestigious soccer contest -AFCON aka Total 2019 Africa Cup of Nations .
The 23rd edition of AFCON which usually plays in intervals of two years, has a good number of white players who have no links to any black parent and have full decent from their European nation.
Check the list below on some of the key players who were named in the AFCON 2019 Squad.
1.South Africa
The African nation has the largest number of white players who are originally speak Dutch language.
Some of the players have already been featured in the competition.
Lars Veldwijk
The 27 year old SA national team forward was born in Uithoorn, Netherlands to both white parents
Lars already featured in the opening match of SA vs Ivory Coast on 24th June 2019.
He plays for the Dutch top league known for Sparta Rotterdam as a striker
Darren Keet
He was born 29 years ago in Cape Town and plays for Bidvest Wits of the South African Premier Division as a goal keeper.
Darren Keet’s who featured in SA’s AFCON opener game as unused substitute, has both parents who are all white
Dean Furman
The South African national team player has represented his country in several AFCON games since 2012.
The 31 year old player features as a midfielder for for SuperSport United in the SA Premier Soccer League.
Dean Furman is also a squad member of SA team in Egypt 2019 AFCON.
He also started the game against Ivory Coast under jersey number 15.
He was born in SA, Cape Town and both his parents are all white.
Daniel Cardoso
Daniel Cardoso plays for Kaizer Chiefs in the Premier Soccer League as a defender.
The 30 year old Daniel who was born in Johannesburg was named in SA AFCON Squad in 2019.
He was however on the bench during their loss to Ivory Coast match played on 21st June 2019.
2.Mauritania
Hemeya Tanjy
The first young rising star Hemeya Tanjy has a big future with Mauritania.
Tanjy is barely 21 years yet he was on bench during the Mauritania match against Mali in AFCON.
Hemeya’s parents are also white
3.Nigeria
Leon Balogun
Leon Aderemi Balogun is a German-Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a defender for Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion
Leon is among the 23 man squad in AFCON and served as a bench option during their opening match in AFCON against Burundi.
4.Madagascar
Jeremy Morel
He was on bench when they played on 22nd June 2019 in AFCON.
Jérémy Morel is a Malagasy professional footballer who currently plays as a centre-back for Ligue 1 side Lyon.
Born in France, he opted to represent Madagascar internationally
He is 35 years old.
