The Kenyan media fraternity is in mourning following the sudden death of esteemed journalist Nick Mudimba, who passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025.

Mudimba, known for his dynamic presence in sports journalism, collapsed at his home in Syokimau, Machakos County, while with his family.

Prior to his untimely demise, Mudimba had been unwell and was diagnosed with elevated uric acid levels on Saturday, March 22. He received medical treatment and appeared to be recovering. On the day of his death, he watched the Harambee Stars’ match against Gabon and later took his prescribed medication. Tragically, he collapsed and began convulsing shortly thereafter, passing away at home.

Mudimba’s career spanned several prominent media houses. He began at KTN, later moved to Switch TV, and most recently served as a senior reporter at CGTN Africa. His colleagues remember him as a dedicated professional with an infectious passion for sports.

The news of his passing has elicited an outpouring of grief and tributes from fellow journalists and fans alike. Mashirima Kapombe expressed her sorrow, stating, “Death, why are you so cruel? Eternal rest grant unto Nick Mudimba, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.” Ferdinand Omondi recalled Mudimba as “one of the kindest souls I ever met, and always ready for a good laugh.”

An autopsy is planned to determine the exact cause of death. As the media community and the nation come to terms with this loss, Mudimba’s legacy as a passionate journalist and a cherished colleague will be fondly remembered.
