Social media influencer Lydia Wanjiru recently sparked conversation after sharing her views on love, marriage, and children. On her Instagram Stories, Wanjiru revealed that she wants to date and experience love but has no desire to marry officially or live full-time with a partner. She emphasised the importance of personal space, even in a committed relationship.

Wanjiru stated: “Do I ever want to get married? No! I have come to the decision that I never want to get married. Do I want to date? Yes! I want to experience companionship and find love. I want to have someone with whom I can share my life. Those paper things and officialising things, living together from Monday to Monday, January to December, it is just not my thing. I want a companion, but someone who is busy and has their own place, and we can meet when we plan. I do not want the official part of marriage.”

She also revealed that she does not want biological children. Her decision stems from experiences caring for her ex-boyfriend, Frank Doso, who was hospitalised in 2025. Observing mothers at the hospital made her realise that raising children was not for her. Wanjiru explained, “I am officially child-free. I do not want to have any biological children; I am happy to be the rich auntie. This decision was made last year when my ex was hospitalised, and I saw how some of the mothers who had their kids there were sad, and I realised that this was not for me.”

Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu publicly supported Wanjiru’s views, adding her own perspective on love and relationships. On her Instagram Stories, Nyamu said, “I get this girl or she gets me, I don’t know which is which. Society should not make some of these very personal decisions for you.” She explained that while she values love, she is not ready to cohabit full-time with a partner. “I like being in love, living with you for seven days a week is where I draw the line,” Nyamu added.

Nyamu’s comments have drawn attention due to her high-profile relationships, including her past romance with Mugithi singer Samidoh. While she has not publicly introduced a new partner since that relationship, her statements align with Wanjiru’s perspective that personal space and independence are important in a relationship.

The discussion has dominated social media, with mixed reactions from netizens. Many applauded both women for prioritising personal choice over societal expectations, while others debated the implications of rejecting marriage or children. Their openness highlights changing attitudes toward relationships in Kenya, showing that love and companionship do not always have to follow traditional paths.

The conversation sparked by Wanjiru and Nyamu continues to resonate with fans, emphasizing the importance of personal autonomy, healthy boundaries, and redefining societal norms around love, marriage, and parenthood.
