Bien-Aime Baraza, a member of the popular band Sauti Sol, and Chiki Kuruka tied the knot in 2020 in a private ceremony attended by only 50 guests. The wedding was held at the Registrar of Marriages with a strict “no phones” policy, allowing the couple to enjoy the moment without social media interruptions. The event was low-budget, costing approximately KSh 300,000, and the reception took place at a friend’s pub, reflecting their choice to prioritize the future over an extravagant one-day celebration. Bien emphasized that their wedding focused on intimacy and meaningful connections rather than public display.

After the band parted ways indefinitely, Chiki Kuruka took on the role of managing her husband’s career, achieving notable strides in guiding his professional path. Despite this responsibility, Chiki chose not to quit her own dancing career. In an interview on the Two Peas In A Pod YouTube channel, she explained her decision, highlighting the importance of maintaining her own identity and career. She stated that she respected Bien’s craft and reputation, but also wanted to ensure she had personal opportunities and a fallback plan for the future.

Chiki emphasized the practical reasons behind her decision to continue dancing. She noted that fully committing to managing Bien’s career would have required giving up personal opportunities, which could pose risks if circumstances changed. She wanted to preserve her own career, ensuring she could remain independent while supporting her husband. This approach allowed her to navigate both roles effectively, protecting her professional growth while contributing to Bien’s success.

The couple’s approach reflects a partnership built on mutual respect, trust, and strategic planning. Chiki’s insight also highlights the challenges managers face in the public eye, noting that when things go wrong, audiences often blame the manager, yet successes are usually attributed solely to the artist. Her perspective shows the careful balance required to manage a high-profile career while nurturing personal ambitions.

For Bien-Aime Baraza, having a partner who understands the demands of the music industry and simultaneously pursues her own career has strengthened their collaboration. Chiki continues to dance and build her personal brand while managing Bien’s projects, showing that it is possible to balance marriage, management, and personal ambition. Their story demonstrates how couples in creative industries can support each other’s growth while maintaining individual goals and long-term stability.
