Facebook multibillionaire yesterday lost a whopping 19.7 billion shillings as he was touring Kenya!
This year Forbes ranked Mark Zuckerberg 6th richest human with a net worth of $44.6 billion (about 5 trillion shillings). Losing 19.7 shillings in a day isn’t that bad for him.
Mark Zuckerberg announced an ambitious project to beam internet from space on October 5th 2015.
“I’m excited to announce our first project to deliver internet from space. As part of our Internet.org efforts to connect the world, we’re partnering with Eutelsat to launch a satellite into orbit that will connect millions of people.
As part of our collaboration with Eutelsat, a new satellite called AMOS-6 is going to provide internet coverage to large parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. The AMOS-6 satellite is under construction now and will launch in 2016 into a geostationary orbit that will cover large parts of West, East and Southern Africa. We’re going to work with local partners across these regions to help communities begin accessing internet services provided through satellite.” Zuckerberg wrote in part.
Yesterday, a rocket exploded at its Cape Canaveral (Florida, USA) launch pad with a satellite that was due to be launched to space on Saturday.
The rocket was carrying a satellite to be used by Facebook (FB, Tech30) to bring internet access to Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.
The satellite was estimated to cost $195 million (19.7 billion shillings) when the plan to build it was first announced.
Zuckerberg expressed disappointment after learning his 19.7 billion satellite had gone up in flames.
“As I’m here in Africa, I’m deeply disappointed to hear that SpaceX’s launch failure destroyed our satellite that would have provided connectivity to so many entrepreneurs and everyone else across the continent,” Zuckerberg wrote.
