The recent Twitter purge to clear off and delete fake accounts have greatly affected Kenya’s top social media influencers in Kenya.
Led by blogger and social media activist, Cyprian Nyakundi lost more than 500K followers while his mate Christian Dela also was dealt with the loss of the same number of followers.
Now Nyakundi’s number stands at 696,000 from the initial 1.2 million while Dela’s has dropped from 1 million to 521k
Twitter has come forth and claimed the loss.
“Follower counts are a visible feature, and we want everyone to have confidence that the numbers are meaningful and accurate,” Twitter wrote on their blog
They added on their blog stating that their move was well intended
“In these situations, we reach out to the owners of the accounts and unless they validate the account and reset their passwords, we keep them locked with no ability to log in. This week, we’ll be removing these locked accounts from follower counts across profiles globally,” said Twitter.
Both @C_NyaKundiH & @xtiandela have lost a combined total of 1M followers. How many Bots and Fake ones did they purchase to inflate their accounts!? pic.twitter.com/PUEnueZiAO
