Electoral body from Democratic Republic of Congo declared Felix Tsisekedi as the Presidential poll winner beating President Joseph Kabila close allies and other contestants.
For the first time in 18 years, there will be exchange or handover of power in the DRC after delayed polls were made public on Thursday 10th January 2018.
“Having gained… 38.57 percent of the vote, Felix Tshisekedi is provisionally declared the elected president of the Democratic Republic of Congo,” said Corneille Nangaa, the head of the Independent National Election Commission (CENI).
After the historic announcements, there were shouts of joy as some of the poll winners celebrated with joy.
Former interior minister Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary whom Joseph Kabila had picked to succeed him came third while the other main opposition candidate former oil executive Martin Fayulu who had been favored by opinion polls came second
Joseph Kabila had promised to step down from power if his preferred picks would be floored.
In the last two years, DRC was under grisp of crisis as the election came calling.
