Nairobi commuters who have fallen to the new trick of con matatu touts have come out to expose the suspicious way of stealing money from innocent Kenyans

The new trick which is common along the Rongai route, involves a well calculated move by the touts.

When you hand over a new or old note of either sh.500 or sh.1000. The touts will want to trick you they have no change and ask for more time to look for change.

Strategically they will ask the potential victim where they are alighting from the matatu.

Then they wait for their moment to come.

Just when you are about to reach your stoppage stage, they will remind you that they have failed to find loose money for your note and offer to ‘return’ your cash without minding taking their share for the distance.

The passenger will be so happy that he or she was not charged for the distance, only to discover that his original note was swapped with a fake one.

It is then you realize you have no clue of the matatu details or even the tout.

Heard Rongai mats take it a notch higher. You give them 1000 shillings, they switch it with a fake & ask kama uko na pesa ndogo, and in the long run after saying hauna pesa ndogo.. wanakulipia fare wanakurudishia 1000 fake saa izo unadhani umebahatika hujalipa fare. https://t.co/nV32cLCeBz
