On Thursday night of 14th March, 2019, University of Nairobi students went on streets to protest the murder of their fellow student fondly known as OCS Ragira.
The students engaged police in running battles after blocking a section of State House road.
It is believed that Ragira was shot dead by police before he bled to death. Before he met his killers, he was condemning a section of individuals who were fighting for the control of shops near the learning institution.
Another student was stabbed during the riots and rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital.
“Police have taken over the issue and it’s our hope that normalcy will return soon,” the university’s director of corporate affairs John Orindi confirmed
According to The University of Nairobi student leader Antony Manyara , the Club 36 which is source of the bedevilling problems must be under students care.
“We will stop at nothing until the students own Club 36 as 95 per cent of them do their shopping there,” said Mr Manyara.
The fallen former student leader Ragira had claimed on Facebook that Mungiki were demanding sh.10,000 from every student who wanted to build a shop in the controversial area.
