Stanley Okumbu’s boys travelled on Monday morning for a critical Africa Cup of Nations qualifier which will kick off on Wednesday. Okumbi, who is the new head coach, was confident that the team will start bearing good fruits and promised Kenyans that they won’t be disappointed anymore as it has been the case with their previous match results.
“We want to go there to fight and win,” Okumbi said after moments of training at Utalii College adding that everything had gone as they had just planned.
The seven-hour trip to the west country will see some of the teams 11 players travel with technical bench officials and federations officials go with a chartered flight to Guinea Bissau
Victor Wanyama, Harambee Stars skipper, will link up with the team on Tuesday. The skipper had just returned from a long injury span of at least 3 weeks and featured in his team on Sunday where they recorded a dramatic comeback with Southampton against Liverpool.
Nick Mwendwa, Football Kenya Federation President said that they had sent two officials prior to the travelling of the rest who were responsible to organize the logistics of accommodations and other facilities that will be required to be put in place
“I will travel with the team and we are not living anything to chance,” Mendwa said.
This is one of the smooth organization that has been witnessed over the last past months as the team has been involved in money scuffles with the officials and poor event organization.
