Few weeks ago, 8 people sadly perished at Oldonyo Sambu area in Tanzania along Namanga-Arusha road. Among them were three Kenyans.

The accident which happened during the last Easter Holiday, seems to have served less lessons to secret racing Nairobians on weekends.

Saddique Shaban, a Nairobi based journalist, reported that ‘death race’ motorists are back on weekend, speeding at their own wish without caring about other road users.

The speeders of Nairobi's Southern bypass are back. Weekend nights. Fast and furious. Young people drag racing, competing to do fastest laps from Langata to Kikuyu for money. Road fast becoming a death trap for everyone using the road. Police, NTSA helpless.

In Kenya, speed racing is unsanctioned as well as an illegal type of auto racing that is becoming popular on Nairobi roads.

In March 2019, a similar case was witnessed in Murang’a county during the
Murang’a Circuit Time Trial Event 2018 (Murang’a TT) .

During the Murang’a TT, feared accidents went ahead and happened.

Drag races are type of racing where drivers test the acceleration of their cars within a short distance such as 10Kms with speeds as high as 200Km/h.

Usually drivers are not allowed to use roll cages, harnesses or even impact padding
