Single women are more likely to die of heart disease than married women.

There are many studies that have been shown to be associated with a lower risk of mortality from any cause.

Why could it be beneficial for women health to be married?

The presence of a spouse influences the stimulus to seek medical attention when the symptoms of any disease appear or also contribute to the follow-up of treatments.

It has also been proposed that it can be protected against the development of the disease by promoting healthier lifestyle, providing social support or even financial security.

Marriage, lower risk of heart disease.

One study, recently published in the journal BMC Medicine, involved more than 1.3 million women over 50 who had to complete a health questionnaire at the beginning of the study and 3 years later. All participants had no history of heart disease, stroke or cancer.

The results showed that, during the almost 9 years that the study lasted, women who were married or living with their partner had the same risk of developing heart disease as unmarried women. But that women who were married were 28% less likely to die from heart disease, than single women. These results were significant, even after taking into account other factors such as age, socioeconomic status and lifestyle.

Women who are married or living with a partner have a lower risk of death from heart disease, possibly because of their partner encourages them to respond to the symptoms of the disease and seek medical treatment.
