Veteran Kenyan radio presenter Alex Mwakideu has opened up about a brief relationship he once had with a Mzungu woman. The media personality described it as the shortest romance of his life, explaining how small misunderstandings led to its swift end.
Speaking to comedian Dr. Ofweneke, Mwakideu recalled meeting the German woman in 2008 while working at Deutsche Welle in Germany. She was a soldier, and the two initially connected, but cultural differences quickly surfaced.
“I have dated a Mzungu, and that was the shortest relationship of my life,” Mwakideu said. He admitted that dating a typical Mzungu woman can be challenging for an African man. “Niliona tu siweza na wazungu bro. Wazungu wana mambo mingi. If you’re an African child, raised in an African way, I can tell you for a fact, you can’t date a Mzungu.”
Mwakideu also shared advice for anyone hoping to maintain a peaceful relationship with a Mzungu partner. He highlighted the importance of humility, adaptability, and respecting their lifestyle. “You must be too humble and obedient. You accept everything. You must be a ‘yes sir’ person. Your social life must change,” he said.
The relationship hit a breaking point when the woman visited him in Kenya. Disagreements arose over his interactions with female friends. “She complained about hugging female friends. On the third day, she walked out of the club in protest,” Mwakideu recalled. The tension escalated, forcing her to move to a guesthouse for the remainder of her stay.
Mwakideu explained that he tried to clarify his social interactions, emphasizing that the women were friends and not romantic interests. Despite his efforts, the relationship ended after just three days of conflict. “She had visited me for three weeks, but we fell out on the third night and she moved to a hotel for the rest of her life. That’s how the story ended,” he said.
The story highlights the cultural and personal challenges that can emerge in cross-cultural relationships, and Mwakideu’s experience serves as a candid reflection on compatibility and communication.
