Bien Aime Baraza, former member of the celebrated Kenyan music group Sauti Sol, has publicly acknowledged the significant role his wife, Chiki Kuruka, has played in his career and personal life. The couple, who work closely together, have built a strong partnership both professionally and personally, with Bien attributing much of his recent success to the support and influence of his wife.
Bien, who recently won the prestigious Trace’s Best Eastern African Artist award, shared that Chiki’s guidance has been instrumental in helping him navigate the challenges of his career. He particularly credited her for boosting his confidence in speaking to international audiences. In a candid interview shared on SPM Buzz, Bien revealed how working with Chiki, who was initially unfamiliar with Swahili, improved his communication skills in English. Their constant interaction has not only sharpened his language proficiency but also prepared him for global platforms.
“As a musician, Chiki has taught me how to speak to a global audience,” Bien explained. “When I met Chiki, she didn’t know Swahili. So, I had to speak to her in English all the time, and that made me improve my communication skills in that language. So when I am in another country and I am on stage communicating to people, it does play a part.”
Beyond professional guidance, Chiki has also helped Bien manage his emotions and overcome imposter syndrome, a challenge that arose when he transitioned from being part of a band to embarking on a solo career. Bien revealed that his wife has always been his source of strength during moments of doubt, showing him how to handle anxiety and reframe his mindset. Their constant discussions about business, even late into the night, have helped them stay closely connected, blending their professional and personal lives seamlessly.
Bien elaborated, “When I was transitioning from a band to a solo artist last year, I had too many bouts of anxiety and imposter syndrome, and she helped put me in a good mindset. There’s no time we are not talking about business; we could be in bed at midnight discussing something because it’s not just business to us—it’s our life. We don’t look at it like work; we enjoy doing it. It has made us super close to one another, so this relationship has saved our marriage. Not saved it, but made my marriage so much fun.”
Social media users were quick to praise Bien for his public admiration of his wife and their loving partnership. Many commented on how refreshing it is to see a man speak so highly of his wife, with some highlighting how their bond seems to inspire their own relationships. Netizens expressed admiration for Bien’s humility and the way he credits Chiki for her influence on his career and personal growth.
“Love how Bien speaks so highly of his wife all the time,” said one commenter, while another added, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor.”
Bien’s openness about how Chiki has helped him grow both professionally and personally has garnered widespread respect, showing that a strong partnership can be the key to success in both love and career.
