First Daughter Charlene Ruto recently launched the Smachs Foundation Centre of Excellence, unveiling the Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and marking a significant step for youth empowerment and sustainable agriculture in Kenya. The launch was a celebratory event that highlighted the foundation’s commitment to mentorship, innovation, and practical skills development.
During the launch, Charlene led the planting of 114 trays of cabbage seedlings, signaling the start of hands-on agricultural activities. The foundation also introduced its 1 Million Tree Seedling Nursery, emphasizing its focus on environmental restoration and sustainability.
The Centre of Excellence will feature several innovative projects, including an herbs and flower propagation greenhouse, an agri-innovation hub, a honey value addition centre, a post-harvest management section, and a vertical multistorey garden. These initiatives are designed to provide practical skills, promote innovation, and create opportunities for young people.
Charlene expressed deep gratitude to mentors and supporters who have guided the foundation, noting that the launch marked not the end but the beginning of a journey toward growth and impact. She emphasized collaboration, calling on stakeholders to work together to build a better future for youth and communities.
The launch of the Smachs Foundation Centre of Excellence sets a strong foundation for Kenya’s next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, and environmental stewards, combining practical agriculture, mentorship, and sustainable development.
